Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating integrated circuits by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip.

An embedded system is a computer system designed for specific control functions within a larger system, often with real-time computing constraints.

  • FPGA: Xilinx
    Xilinx ISE (Integrated Synthesis Environment) is a software tool produced by Xilinx for synthesis and analysis of HDL designs, enabling the developer to synthesise ("compile") their designs, perform timing analysis, examine RTL diagrams, simulate a design's reaction to different stimuli, and configure the target device with the programmer.

  • Embeded linux OS: Yocto Project
    The Yocto Project (YP) is an open source collaboration project that helps developers create custom Linux-based systems for embedded products, regardless of the hardware architecture. The projects provides a flexible set of tools and a space where embedded developers worldwide can share technologies, software stacks, configurations, and best practices that can be used to create tailored Linux images for embedded and IOT devices.

  • Cadence: Virtuoso
    The students uses the Cadence tools to design the schematic and the layout of individual units such as Adder, Register File, Decoders, etc. and perform DRC/LVS checks on them. Tools for designing full-custom integrated circuits; includes schematic entry, behavioral modeling (Verilog-AMS), circuit simulation, custom layout, physical verification, extraction and back-annotation. Used mainly for analog, mixed-signal, RF, and standard-cell designs, but also memory and FPGA designs.

  • Embedded Boards: Raspberry pi & Beaglebone
    The Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python.
