About Us


The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is one of the major Departments of MEC since its inception in 2009. The department has academic programs with about 260 undergraduate students. The department is equipped with state of the art experimental and computational facilities.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)


At the end of their course, Electrical Engineering Graduates will have achieved the following values and capabilities :

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME (PSO)

  1. Design and Analysis of electrical systems :Students will design, evaluate and analyse electrical systems through modeling and simulation and to implement the same.
  2. Implementation of Power systems :Students will design and implement an optimised and reliable power system with appropriate instrumentation and control.
  3. Analysis of Electronic Systems :Students will design, implement and analyse analog and digital electronic circuits and systems for varying customer needs.
  4. Adherence to Standards : Students will design, estimate and implement electrical installations conforming to prevailing standards.

Electrical Minds Forum - The Association of the Electrical Engineering Fraternity of Model Engineering College.


Electrical Minds Forum (EMF) is the society of the students of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. It aims to act as a bridge between the students and the strides made in the industry. EMF, the Electrical Association of Model Engineering College is the joint venture of the staff and students of Electrical and Electronics Department.

Electrical Minds Forum (EMF) of Govt. Model Engineering College is a noble attempt to create a platform on which one can discuss ideas, practice and articulate a shared vision for progress in the areas of interest. EMF will aid thought provoking interactions and motivate the students to excel. EMF will help in achieving career goals, technological innovation and continuous improvement. Our primary objective is to develop a passion in students for electrical and electronics engineering and help them achieve their goals. As an organization at the campus level, we aspire to create a platform for students to showcase their ideas and skills, assist them in their work and keep them abreast on all the developments in the field. In addition to enhancing the technical background of students, we also give due importance in developing their organizational and management skills. Our goal is to mould a smarter generation of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

EMF brings together eminent personalities from organizations of high repute such as Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and enables students to engage in interactions with them.EMF has initiated in conducting workshops, interactive seminar sessions,PCB design workshops, lectures consistently every year in MEC.

EMF also takes initiative in organising Industrial Visits for students of electrical and electronics department, in which the visit to Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant has raised the morale of the club among the students.

Project Urja


As part of our activity to bring engineering service to the society, EMF identified a tribal village, Uriyampettty in Kuttampuzha Panchayath of Ernakulam district. It’s a village with nearly 73 families who still hold on to their traditional way of life, in harmony with the dense forest in the Western Ghats.



MEC Solar Project


Govt. Model Engineering College has made news repeatedly in the last near-thirty years of its magnificent existence. The college has always been at the forefront of innovation, cultural and community oriented activities, while continuing to be an indomitable force with regard to academic results, placement stats and advocacy of social causes.



The project was initially conceived as a 100kW solar power plant to meet all the needs of the college but received approval for a 30kW power plant on technical grounds. The installation a 30kW solar panel would reduce the contract demand by about 50kVA. With the solar power generating station expected to generate 40,000 units per annum, reduction in contract demand and savings in power consumption would mean an annual saving of Rs. 0.4 million for the college.



The 30kw on-grid solar plant has been constructed on 300 square metres of the total area of the rooftop of the main building. Hundred panels of 300W have been installed. Two on-grid inverters of 15kW installed as a part of the plant help in sending electricity generated directly to the grid instead of storing it in batteries. On working days, the solar power plant can partly take care of the electricity needs of the college, with the rest being supplied by the electricity board. During holidays, the plant exports the power to the grid.

The main idea of the project was to cut down on costs and solve the energy crisis. And the toil and labour have borne fruit. Where the electricity bills previously rounded up to Rs 1.8lakhs, it now reduced by around Rs. 30,000. In the long run, the college expects to become self reliant for its energy needs.
